Anaruj Shankar and his colleague from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland have found that feeding zinc or vitamin A to children seems to raise their immunity to malaria. In a 13 month trial that Dr Shankar conducted in New Guinea, which involved feeding almost 500 children vitamin A every three months, he found that he could reduce the incidence of the disease by 30%. Zinc did even better.
