Maize crop worth more than Rs. 20 million destroyed in western Dang

The disease in maize crop in Ghamake village in Pawannagar VDC of western Dang has destroyed maize crop worth over Rs. 20 million. It has destroyed maize in some 300 bighas of land, said local farmers.
All maize of the field was destroyed in a few days from disease seen suddenly when the maize was about to mature, said farmer Falakudutta Bhandari. Farmers have said they will stage sit-in if they do not get compensation in the concerned office.
Meanwhile, CA Member Deepak Giri said the government should give compensation to farmers as it was destroyed when government approved seeds were used.Giri, who was in the affected area with party workers on Monday said he will make initiative for the same and assured to reach it to the Ministry of Agriculture.
A team of technicians led by technician of the District Agriculture Development Office, Bharatmani Pokhrel is undertaking research on it.Meanwhile, CA Member Giri met with voters in various villages of Pawannagar, Shantinagar and Baghmare in his Constituency No. 5 of Dang as per his commitment to reach constituency in every three months and assured on various problems like drinking water, road and electricity.
Journalists including Goraksha Dainik Publisher Tej Bahadur Karki, Reporters Club Chairman Sharad Regmi, FNJ Dang Member Gopal Sharma Bhattarai, Prakash Dangi, Krishna Neupane and Purna Basnet also visited the affected maize crops.
