JORHAT, Sept 23: State Water Resources Minister Prithibi Majhi has made a case for the application of modern, foolproof techniques to tackle the floods and erosion problem in the State. Interacting with reporters here this evening after his visit to the flood-ravaged Majuli subdivision, Majhi, who succeeded Bharat Chandra Narah to the portfolio after a recent reshuffle of the State Cabinet, said that he would consult experts on how best to proceed with flood-and-erosion control measures.
The traditional methods of construction and protection of dykes have to be reinforced with modern technology which has proved effective in advanced countries, the minister stressed.
Though he stopped short of expressing his displeasure with the Brahmaputra Board, which has been executing the anti-erosion and other flood control projects in Majuli, in the face of the widespread criticism the Central agency has been facing, Majhi called for greater coordination between the Board and the State Water Resources Department.
