Major timber smuggling racket in Hojai busted

Despite the Supreme Court's ban on illegal felling of trees and strict surveillances by forest personnel, how Hojai in Assam has been made a paradise of illegal valuable forest wealth by the smugglers from the rich reserve forest under Hojai sub division, came to light as the Forest Department and Hojai Police during a joint raid seized huge timber (sal, segun and gamari) from the campus of M/s Habib Industries owned by one Mujibur Rahman of Hojai town on July 12. The market value of seized timbers would be around Rs 5 lakh.
