After a group of Malawi civil society organisations accused Paladin, a uranium miner company in Karonga northern part of Malawi, of secretly discharging wastes into Lake Malawi, the company, has hit back through a statement released to the ASX.
John Borshoff Paladin's Chief Executive Officer was quick to downplay reports that have been circulating on Malawi's media citing that they contained untrue information.
"Nongovernmental organisations who are unfriendly to Paladin company are the ones that have been producing these false statements to the general public to mislead people", responded John Borshoff.
Paladin is setting up to release excess water treated to internationally recognised discharge standards including the world health organisation drinking water guideline for uranium content, and this is obligatory to avoid unintentional discharge of runoff water contained in storage ponds at the mining site.
"Due to infrequent rainfalls and moderate light here in the northern part of Malawi, we have failed to treat and release water, and there will be no harm arising from the release of treated water", said Borshoff.
In his final remarks John Borshoff said Paladin will continue to pursue all legal steps and that all the parties that are informing and misleading people should stop.
