Miss Mamata Banerjee today announced that the farmers who had been dispossessed of their land measuring about 400 acres for the small car project in Singur could start cultivation on their lands any time now. She warned that any attempt to bulldoze the farmers will have serious consequences. While observing black day in Singur today, to commemorate the promulgamation of Section 144 in Singur in 2006, Miss Banerjee said that Tata has moved out of Singur because he is incurring huge losses in his insurance business due to global financial meltdown and was in no position to roll out small cars for Rs 1 lakh. Miss Banerjee would visit the Sahaganj unit of Dunlop tomorrow. Mr Shyamal Chakranorty, CPI-M central committee member and Citu state president, launched a counter-offensive against the Trinamul by declaring that the CPI-M's workers and peasants wings would organise a series of agitation in Singur to press the demand for setting up industries there. n SNS
