Despite several warnings by environmentalists, a grave threat looms large over mangrove forests in the State.Ever since the late 50s, when nearly 4000 hectares of mangrove forests were cleared to construct the Paradeep Port, the felling of these trees continues unabated for one purpose or the other. Described as the Orissa's coast guards these trees protect the State coastline from natural calamities like storms and cyclones.
