Mangroves not being provided sufficient water

experts : Forest scientists attending a seminar on mangroves have recommended that at least 35 million acre feet (MAF) fresh water is required for the survival of the mangroves in the Indus delta. The participants of the national seminar on "Mangrove Ecosystem - Dynamics of the Indus Delta," organized jointly by the World Bank and Sindh Forests Department, said on Wednesday at present only 10 MAF had been guaranteed, which was not sufficient even to sustain the existing mangrove cover. They said even this supply of 10 MAF, or whatever quantity was available, also came for a couple of months in the monsoon season which acted like a flash flood, while the mangroves needed fresh water supply round the year.
