Manipur gets Rs 44.52 crore for development of environment

The Ministry of Environment and Forest made the budgetary provisions for North-east States to the tune of Rs. 4647 crore during the last three years. The year wise allocations were Rs. 1388.19 crore, Rs. 1520.14 crore and Rs. 1539.00 crore for the tears 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 respectively. The different Central Schemes were Development of National Parks and Sanctuaries, Biosphere Reserve, Conservation and Management of Mangroves, Coral Reefs and Wetlands, Project Elephant, Project Tiger, National Afforestation Programme, and Gregarious Flowering Muli Bamboo. The Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Namo Narain Meena gave this information to a question by Mani Charenamei, MP from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday last. Manipur got Rs 303.01 lakh in the field of Development of National Parks and Sanctuaries; Rs. 30.00 lakh in Conservation and Management of Mangroves, Coral Reefs and Wetlands; Rs. 666.98 lakh in Integrated Forest Protection Scheme, Rs. 2608.00 lakh in National Afforestation Programme and Rs. 844.40 lakh in Gregarious Flowering Muli Bamboo. The area of plantation taken up under the National Afforestation and Eco-development Board (NAEB) during the last three years in Manipur was 12795 hectare. The number of NGOs selected for implementation of the Schemes in the northeastern States are 75, 41 and 40 NGOs for the years 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 respectively.
