The Urban Development Minister, Mr. Annath Kumar, today indicated that the Centre would shortly propose a plan of rail-based public transport for 35 large cities with the Union and State Governments sharing 13% coasts each and rest of the funding coming from financial institutions. The Minister said the Rs 12.500-crore Delhi Metro Rail Project had been taken up jointly by the Union and Delhi governments with both equally sharing the cost, a model that could be replicated elsewhere.
