Like elsewhere the forest resources of Dhubri district of Assam are also being slaughtered by greedy smugglers. The roads once beautified by straight lines of green trees bearing a barren look owing to massive timber smuggling. This has taken its toll in the entire area putting at stake the lives of poor families who had been solely dependent on eco-friendly exploitation of these resources. In the entire district, till a couple of years ago, huge trees planted in the pre-independence period would stand clustered on both sides of the highways.
