The Madhya Pradesh state government's decision to do away with several autonomous undertakings has resulted in closure of the Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation, until recently famous for bamboo products made by its highly talented crafts persons. The Corporation was being run by the Madhya Pradesh government under a Rs. 2.87 crore 'Bamboo Project', the only one of its kind in the country.
