The draft of the Master Plan for Delhi (MPD) 2021 has proposed smaller housing units in the Capital. The population boom and shortage of housing in the city has forced the authorities to put a squeeze on the living space for residents. The proposed building regulations will restrict the size of plots constructed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and housing societies to 90 square metres. With Delhi's population expected to grow by around five lakh every year - it is expected to touch 230 lakh by 2021 - the estimated additional housing required will be around 24 lakh dwelling units.
