Even as a controversial bill to regulate indiscriminate exploitation of groundwater in the national Capital has been opposed by some MLAs, a similar legislation has been suggested by the Master Plan Draft (MPD) for 2021. Taking a cue from Chandigarh, which enacted a law to prevent groundwater depletion, the MPD 2021 has emphasised the need for a similar law in the Capital, sources said. Local MLAs, however, have opposed even the Delhi Jal Board (Amendment) Bill 2005.
