The Municipal Corporation will hire consultants for augmentation of water supply and sewerage system in the city. The consultants will prepare feasibility reports and thereafter, the detailed project report for submission to the Ministry of the Urban Development under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission. The proposal will be discussed in the meeting of Finance and Contract Committee to be held on Thursday. The consultants will conduct studies in all urban sectors of Chandigarh from Sectors 1 to 56, Punjab and Haryana Secretariat, Vidhan Sabha, High Court. The villages and rehabilitation colonies in the jurisdiction of the civic body will also come under its purview. The other areas to be studied include the Industrial Area, Phase I and II, Manimajra Town and Mauli Jagran Colony. The team will also study the feasibility of bringing water from Ganguwal Head works to water works at Sector 39 under gravity. This will in addition to exploring the possibility of bringing additional water 40 MGD from Water works at Kajauli under the augmentation water supply Scheme V and VI. Besides, a study on unaccounted and non-revenue water and improvement in water pressure to supply water for 24 hours in the city will be undertaken. It will take six months from the date of allotment to submit the final report by the consultants. Terms and conditions for engaging the consultants have been framed, sources said.
