By HIMANI CHANDEL The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is facing tough time with the arrival of early arrival of monsoon this year as the weather has become conducive for mosquito breeding. According to health officials of the civic body, the rains have cooled off the summer heat but are also serving as a catalyst for mosquito breeding. "This year, we did not experience much heat in the summer which has disturbed the ecological balance and the natural eradication of mosquitoes," municipal health officer (MHO) N.K. Yadav said. "The climate, which is between 28 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius with high humidity, is highly conducive to breeding of the Aedes mosquito. This particular climate helps them thrive and transmit the disease," he said. "Therefore, it will inevitably increase the chances of water-borne diseases like dengue and malaria to a great extent. However, we are taking all precautions to avoid the eruption of such diseases," he said. The civic body has deputed 3,200 persons to carry out door-to-door survey to check the mosquito breeding in coolers, tanks etc. "We started checking potential mosquito breeding grounds around the city," he said. The MCD fines up to Rs 500 for having found filthy water in open spaces around the houses or in water coolers. As of now, the civic body has fined 458 people for mosquito breeding by not maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings. However, 15 cases of malaria and one case of dengue have already been reported in the city.
