The process of removal of about 1,200 jhuggis from the fly-ash pound on Ring Road near Pragati Maidan, where a power plant is proposed to be constructed, under massive police presence and about 250 tenements were removed. Former Prime Minister V.P. Singh also reached the spot in the evening and spent about half-an-hour with the dwellers and expressed his support to them. Acting on orders of the Delhi High Court, which had on March 1 ordered removal of over 1,000 unauthorised structures and "jhuggis'' from the spot and had asked Delhi Development Authority, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other Government agencies to file an explanation as to how over 2,800 "jhuggis'' were relocated at the place which was unfit for human dwelling, the demolition squad of MCD reached the spot amid a strong police presence.
