Medical waste disposal satisfactory

The regulatory body, DPCC, disclosed the status of 10 major hospitals in the city Applications for authorisation from Apollo, Ortho Nova and Hindu Rao under consideration DPCC issues public notices for proper management of bio-medical waste NEW DELHI: The Delhi Pollution Control Committee has stated that the status of medical waste disposal in major hospitals in the Capital is satisfactory. The DPCC is a regulatory organisation and is implementing and enforcing environmental laws in the city including Bio-Medical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 1998. Though it is making efforts to streamline the bio-waste management in hospitals, it is the statutory responsibility of individual hospitals as well to adhere to the stipulated norms within their premises. Disclosing the status of 10 major hospitals on Sunday, the Committee said so far Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Mool Chand Hospital, G.M. Modi Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, Lala Ram Swaroop T.B. Hospital and Maternity Hospital were concerned, their compliance with provisions of bio-medical waste rules was satisfactory as per the inspection reports available with it. All these hospitals have valid authorisation. The applications for authorisation in respect of Apollo, Ortho Nova and Hindu Rao Hospital are under consideration and no adverse comment with respect to management of bio-medical waste was observed during the inspection, the DPCC said, adding that it would be inspecting all these hospitals again to evaluate their compliance to rules.
