Meet decides on identifying route for hazardous materials

The off site emergency plan for chemical and harzardous industries in south Goa will now be part of the district Disaster Management Plan.
District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, G P Naik on Wednesday chaired a meeting to set in process to incorporate the off site emergency plan into the Disaster Management Plan.
Naik informed that the meeting has taken certain decisions, which includes identification of a new route for the transportation of hazardous chemical on the NH-17 especially at the accident prone Karmal Ghat region.
He said a number of accidents involving hazardous chemical carrying tankers have occurred at the Karmal Ghat region, adding that a survey would be undertaken to identify alternate route for the transportation.
The meeting also took a decision to involve the stake holders to find out the existing facilities available along the stretch of the highway in times of emergencies for rescue and rehabilitation of the affected people.
