The Endosulfan Peedhitha Janakeeya Munnani (EPJM) will convene a ‘Jagratha’ (Vigil) convention here on Friday to urge the authorities concerned to implement the promised package in a time-bound manner to the affected families of endosulfan victims..
The meeting will be inaugurated by poet and green activist Sugatha Kumari at the Municipal Conference hall at 10 a.m. on Friday, EPJM convener Ambalathara Kunhikrishnan told a press conference here on Wednesday.
Medical camps
Though the revised Government Order has affirmed to conduct fresh medical camps to determine the cases of fresh endosulfan victims, there is concern among the anti-endosulfan activists and the distraught families of the victims, Mr. Kunhikrishnan said.
Not in list
Mohammed Sinan, a seven-month-old inant who died earlier this month of hydrocephalus (accumulation of fluid in the brain) due to which his head was of abnormal size right from birth, did not find place in the official list of endosulfan victims as the last exhaustive medical camp was held in December 2011 with several cases being reported in other affected panchayats, he said. The meeting, to be attended by representatives from various social and political organisatgions, including P. Karunakaran, MP; E. Chandrasekharan, MLA’, former Speaker and senior Congress leader V.M. Sudheeran; and green activist A. Surendranath who had taken part in the hunger strike; would chalk out future plans to ensure that the authorities implemented the package in a time-bound and effective manner. The EPJM has decided to set up ‘Jagratha’ committees in all the affected panchayats to ensure that the decisions taken by the authorities concerned reach the targeted sections and their families, he said.
