The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MEF) and Steel Authority of India (SAIL) are heading for a showdown, with the former vehemently opposing SAIL's proposal to undertake captive iron ore mining in prime forest land in Rowghat in Madhya Pradesh.The MEF has rejected the proposal on the ground that it would involve diversion of 1000 hectares of dense forest land for captive mining and such would be violative of the Forest Conservation Act (FCA).
