The Central Ground Water Board has formulated a mega scheme for transformation of the Thar desert in Western Rajasthan into a green, prosperous and drought free area by recharging its depleted ground water aquifers with the surplus waters of the Indira Gandhi Canal and Ghaggar river's flood waters.
