Meghalaya Speaker ED Marak has landed himself in a timber controversy with the Garo Students' Union, Kharkutta unit shooting off an open letter accusing him with direct involvement in illegal felling of trees in Ildek reserve forest in Garo Hills. The letter addressed to Chief Minister E K Mawlong said that the change by the GSU is based on the 'oral' report of the public of Badaka village and Adokgre area. Spot verification revealed 36 stumps of sal trees and one stump of teak tree, it claimed.
