With construction of Delhi Metro's second phase on full-stream, and the first section between Dilshad Garden and Shahdara up for completion by the year-end, the state budget has allocated a sum of Rs 819.93 crore for Metro rail in 2008-09. The money will be utilised for construction of eight new corridors, all of which are part of Delhi Metro's Phase II. As of today, the Delhi Metro network extends over just 65.10 km across the city. By the year 2010, the next phase will cover another 125.04 km with the network reaching parts of south and east Delhi areas too. Phase II will also provide a fast-track link from Connaught Place to IGI Airport and Dwarka, and connect Delhi to satellite townships of Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad.
