Metro may be extended to Howrah, Hooghly

Railway minister Miss Mamata Banerjee today announced a slew of proposals that included Metro Railway extension to Howrah and Hooghly districts and computerised reservation counters in city and district courts. The minister announced the proposals at the inauguration of the renovated computerised railway reservation centre at Rabindra Sadan this afternoon. Miss Banerjee, said that the initial process for connecting Dakshineswar, Barrackpore, Barasat, Rajarhat, Majerhat, Garden Reach and Joka with Metro Railway had been initiated. The railways were also planning to connect adjoining districts like Hooghly and Howrah with the Metro rail.
