Selected stations: Janakpuri (West), Rohini (West), Pitampura Parking lots to be extended to other stations Provision for shopping malls and ATMs NEW DELHI: To ensure that parking space at the Capital's Metro railway stations does not end up resembling the other local car parks, where considerable time and effort are wasted by motorists in grabbing the elusive free spot, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation now plans to develop multi-level parking lots. These parking lots will come up at Janakpuri (West), Rohini (West) and Pitampura Metro stations and tenders have been invited. DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said: "The present parking lots at these three locations are very crowded. And all these locations are in proximity to important commercial hubs.' Located near the Janakpuri District Centre, Janakpuri station will have 8,500 square metres for parking. Rohini (West) station is located near more than 100 housing colonies In Pitampura, the station is near a commercial area. The new design will create space for about 800 cars at Janakpuri (West), 550 cars at Rohini (West) and 400 cars at Pitampura. Provision will also be made for accommodating two-wheelers. "We are looking at selecting a developer through a competitive bidding process to set up these multi-level parking lots. The bidder will be offered a concession to run these for 30 years. In addition, the bidder can also carry out commercial development by setting up shopping malls and plazas or retail showrooms for consumer goods or even ATMs,' Mr. Dayal said. The builders will be required to provide essential public conveniences and drinking water fountains in the parking facility. The DMRC is planning to provide similar multi-levels parking slots at other stations.
