The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has admitted the application of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for granting it the status of a distribution company (DISCOM), thereby paving the way for cheaper power to Metro Rail. Though there is still a long way to go before the DMRC is granted license by the DERC, the decision is seen as a step forward for the Metro Rail to purchase electricity directly from the Delhi Transmission Company (Transco) and not through the private-run DISCOMs, which is the case at present.
