Water release from the Mettur reservoir for delta irrigation was suspended today after about 90 days of staggered supply from October 7 last (2003). The possibility of drawing water further is ruled out as the dam level touched almost the dead storage, with the inflow registering a meagre 203 cusecs. With the standing samba crop on about three lakh hectares in the delta districts requiring at least two more wettings before harvest, water managers are making frantic efforts to get supply for saving it.
