Though Mid-day Meal Scheme (MDMS) is being executed successfully in the Almora district, but more than 1,000 primary schools do not have kitchen and potable water facilities in the district. This information was provided by Almora Additional District Education Officer (Basic) RC Purohit while talking to The Pioneer on Thursday.
Purihit claimed that foods are being prepared for schoolchildren under MDMS in all the primary schools and upper primary schools in the district. We have inspected more than 100 schools through out the year. There are more than 1,000 primary schools in the district wherein kitchen and potable water facilities are not available. One teacher has been deployed in 580 primary schools where the number of students is around 80 in the district.
He further said that due to shortage of supply of food grains during the natural calamities in the district, foods were not prepared in large number of schools for 15 days. For the last two months, food grains are being reached on time and MDMS is being executed successfully in the district.
While talking to The Pioneer, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) State Project Joint Director incharge Pravendra Kumar Bisht said that as per the reports received from the ADEOs (basic) of all the 13 districts of the State, foods are being prepared under the MDMS in all the primary schools and upper primary schools.
