Hyderabad, Sept. 7: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekar Reddy, on Sunday asked the Union minister for human resource development, Mr Arjun Singh, to set up the Indian School of Mines (ISM) university campus in Khammam district.
Thanking the ISM university, Dhanbad, for agreeing to establish an ISM campus in Andhra Pradesh, Dr Rajasekhar Reddy proposed that Khammam district was the most suitable to house the campus.
In a letter to the Union minister, Dr Rajasekhar Reddy said that Khammam has a mining history of over 120 years and has abundant natural minerals like coal, iron ore, dolomite, limestone, quartz, barytes, copper, graphite, steatite, chromite, corrundum, red oxide, kyanite, dolerite (balck granite) and sand.
Explaining the importance of the location, he elaborated that Khammam district has huge mining based industries like Singareni Collieries, Manuguru Heavy water plant, Sponge Iron India Limited, Nava Bharat Ferro alloys, Visakha Steel- Rastriya Ispat Nigam
