Paderu (Visakhapatnam), July 14: The minister for commercial taxes, Mr Konatala Ramakrishna, said the bauxite mining would be taken up in the Agency soon after all the approvals were given by various departments of the Central government. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr Ramakrishna said the clearance was in the preliminary stages and being speeded up by the State government. He said the mining would not harm the tribals or take away their livelihood as being feared by them. Environment in the forests would not be affected as latest mining technology would be used. All the mining projects would be far from human habitations and from the natural resources like streams. On the objections being raised by tribal and mass organisations and some political parties, the minister said they were raising baseless doubts affecting the development. Citing examples of other states, the minister said Kerala government had signed an MoU with a multinational company and the process of mining was going smooth. The state government has asked the mining officials not to conduct survey in the areas which would be given to the tribals for farming. "Land pattas would be given to the tribals. About 86,000 acres of land in 11 Agency mandals would be given to the farmers," Mr Ramakrishna said. Besides mining, the government is planning an all round development of important places like Araku Valley, Anantagiri and Paderu, he said. The tourism department has plans ready for building cottages in Paderu to add the town on the tourist circuit. About 30 English medium schools were planned for the Agency and expressed happiness over selection of three tribal students for admission into IIT.
