Minister denies allegations on tribals` forest land issue

SC/ST Welfare Minister M A Kuttappan denied the allegations of Dileep Singh Bhuria, chairman of Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes Commission, that the Centre had allotted 7,693 hectares of forest land to Kerala State Government for landless tribals and it was not distributed to them. He said the Union Government had allotted the land on condition that the State Government should pay Rs 5 to 9 lakh for each hectare of land, which comes around Rs 400 crore. The State Government had got impleaded in the case in the Supreme Court, seeking a relaxation of the amount to be paid to the Union Government.
