KOLKATA, Jan. 20: Power cuts in February are a serious possibility if coal supply does not increase, said state minister of power and non-conventional energy sources, Mr Mrinal Banerjee, today.
Mr Banerjee was speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day seminar, "Energy ~ East and North East 2009" organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in association with West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd.
The state demand for coal is currently 55,000 tons per day, yet the state only receives 35,000 to 40,000 tons every day. If the deficit between demand and supply is not reduced, there will be a shortage in power supply, said Mr Banerjee.
