Ministers cycle their way to work on 'car-free day'

Grass miraculously sprouted in a central Paris square on Wednesday and politicians cycled to work, as more than 160 cities and towns in France, Italy and Switzerland staged a "car-free day"aimed at fending off an auto invasion of urban centres. Environment Minister Dominique Voynet, a Green, led a series of cycle-borne ministers as they headed for a weekly cabinet meeting at the presidential Elysee Palace in central Paris.
