Warangal, July 8: The minister for agriculture, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, and the minister for major irrigation, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, had a tough time in pacifying the irate farmers, who took the ministers to task on the shortage of fertilisers and the irregular power supply. The ministers had an embarrassing time in answering the farmers on various problems at the Rythu Sadassu meet at Agriculture Research Station here on Tuesday. The farmers challenged the agriculture minister to come along with them to the market and find for himself whether the fertilisers were available or not. They asked the minister to prove that the fertilisers were available in the city. A farmer, Sammaiah, found fault with the government for its inability to ensure the promised seven-hour power supply to the farming sector. "Not even two hours of power was being supplied to the farming sector that too mostly during the night," he pointed. Another farmer, Linga Reddy, demanded the government to announce the lists of farmers getting benefit through the loan waiver scheme. Many cooperative societies of the farmers were giving false data thus denying eligible farmers of the loan waiver, they alleged. They also expressed their ire at the officials who tried to prevent the farmers from narrating their woes citing the "paucity" of time. The farmers said that it was their right to explain their problems at least at the Rythu Sadassus and added that the farmers meeting were not meant for the lectures by the ministers and others. In response, Mr Raghuveera Reddy promised to intensify raids against those dealers who were black marketing the fertilisers and would initiate stringent action.
