Ministry event to take note of depleting ozone layer

Ozone layer is depleting and its effect can be felt on earth. Life on earth is bearing the effect of depleting ozone layer, caused by chemicals including chloroflurocarbons (CFCs). Every year, September 16 is observed as International Day for the preservation of the Ozone layer. Union ministry of environment and forests is holding an event to mark the occasion, where experts will discuss on countering effects of UV radiation and strengthening mechanism to phase-out ozone depleting chemicals like chloroflurocarbons. Public awareness programs on the issue and roping in individual efforts are also part of the event.
Researches have confirmed that the stratospheric ozone layer, which protects life on earth by absorbing most of the harmful ultraviolet radiation from the Sun, is depleting. It was in 1970
