A typical land ownership system in Meghalaya has left the state government with a negligible percentage of the geographical area, making the Government work extra time to promote bamboo industry in a scientific manner. The Forest Department recently held a conference in the state capital, where statistics were made public showing that out of the total forest area of ee15,657 sq km, only 1,027 seq kem was under the control of the State Government.
