SILCHAR: A mobile treatment plant has become functional with the invocation to Vishwakarma, God of architecture and engineering, under PHE division II near Silchar Medical College and Hospital at Ghungoor. This is under national rural drinking water plan of the Government of India. The 2000 litre per hour water filter capacity plant would provide safe and hygienic water to people of those areas which come under PHE division II. The plant with the total outlay of Rs 80 lakh has been pressed into service as a part of the disaster management unit of the division.
Gautam Roy, PHE minister, after inaugurating the plant, said it was a timely decision of his department to meet the challenges of time in respect of ensuring safe water. In the event of natural calamity like floods, spread of contagious diseases and other adverse situations calling for supply of safe drinking water, the plant would move to those affected areas with water purifiers and other essentials to help people in distress. The minister said that it was the decision of his government to have such plants under all the divisions of PHE in the state. This mobile water treatment plant was the first of its kind in Barak Valley. On this occasion were present Tapas Roy, executive engineer, and Pranab Roy, accounts officer, of PHE II division, along with other officials.
PHE division I, on the other hand, organized a blood donation camp for the needy and poor patients. It was held with the cooperation of Barak Valley Blood Donors Forum and Red Cross Blood Bank. Around 100 persons came forward and donated blood for a noble cause. This blood donation camp was inaugurated by Kamalendu Bhattacharjee in the presence of Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya, AIUDF MLA, and Gautam Paul, executive engineer, PHE division I.
