The Monorail Mass Rapid Transit System (MMRTS) project, proposed to run across 490 km in the Chennai, Tamilnadu has been kick started with the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) inviting bids to undertake works for the same. The MMRTS project was conceived by the State government to ease the heavy traffic congestion on Chennai roads, which has become a regular feature in the ever- expanding metro. The Government had appointed MTC as the nodal agency to execute the project. The MTC has now invited bids from those who are experienced in commercial operation of a rail network for 50 km or a monorail system for 15 km in the past five years.
