More cyclone shelters soon

Ongole Oct. 16: The incharge collector, Mr A. Dinakar Babu, on Thursday called upon the officials to be vigilant during floods and cyclones as Prakasam district has 102 km of seacoast. He said 18 cyclone shelters would be constructed in the district apart from the present 30 to serve people in emergency situations.
Addressing a review meeting of the district disaster management coordination committee here, Mr Dinakar Babu said the authorities would start toll free services through 1077 for emergencies. Services of expert swimmers should be taken to rescue people, he said and ordered the additional director (fisheries) Mr G. Venkat Rao, to make arrangements for the same. Mr Dinakar Babu also ordered officials to provide life-saving jackets and transfer people to the 30 cyclone shelters immediately after the second cyclone warning.
