In order to ease the parking chaos in Kolkata, the state government needs to work on concrete plans to have more parking plazas in the city, state public works department minister, Mr Kshiti Goswami said in the Assembly today. Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA, Mr Ajay Dey, the PWD minister said the rate at which cars are increasing the city, there is an urgent need to have more multi-storeyed parking plazas, especially in the congested areas of the city. "But this is not the job of the PWD department. To achieve this, the state government needs to work on a concrete plan,' said Mr Goswami. He said that a ten-storeyed building that is coming up near the Calcutta High Court will have a large parking place in its basement. This, the minister hoped, will ease the parking troubles near the busy High Court area. "More such projects are necessary to address the parking problems in the city. The underground parking plaza beside Lal dighi near Writers' Buildings will be completed in three years time. It is being constructed at a cost of Rs 26 crore. Once completed, nearly 650 cars can be accommodated here,' the minister added. n SNS
