The World Wildlife Fund yesterday announced that more than 25 million acres of the world's forests have been independently certified as meeting enviornmental standards for being "well-managed," indicating that the WWF's minimum goal of forest certification is ahead of schedule.Under the program, certified independent forest examiners assess a timber company's operations to verify that its lands are sustainably managed in accordance with the best-available forestry practices. More than 115 forests in 25 countries make up the 25 million acres that have been certified.
