In the first half of this year China stepped up its nationwide afforestation project, with more than half of the annual target already achieved. By May 20, the country had afforested 2.835 million hectares of land, accounting for 59.4 percent of the annual plan, according to statistics released by the State Forestry Administration (SFA).
