More trees will help

In its endeavour to create more than 40 forests in the city, the Delhi government has selected new areas for plantation this year. These areas include drains and the Yamuna bank near Sonia Vihar. Delhi environment minister A K Walia said: "We have taken up plantation on Trunk Drain No 1, Ghazipur, Hindon Cut and the Najafgarh drains. The survival of plants is easier next to a drain because of the moisture content in the soil. Also, saplings here require less attention and care."
