MoU signed for thermal power plant in Khandwa

Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company and BHEL on Tuesday signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing a Super Critical thermal power plant of 1600 MW in Khandwa district. This plant will help the State overcome power crisis.
Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Arun Yadav, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni, State Congress President Suresh Pachauri were present. The MoU was signed up by MP Power Generating Company CMD RB Agrawal and BHEL CMD BP Rao.
On the occasion, Deshmukh said that there would be no delay in the work of Khandwa plant and it would be accomplished under the set time frame. With the help of BHEL and other units, Government of India will take initiative to increase electricity production capacity in Madhya Pradesh.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that several States in the country were facing power crisis. In the coming years, Madhya Pradesh will be in a position to sell electricity to other States. In the last five years, special achievements have been accomplished in the State in the power production field.
Regarding the power project, Chauhan said that now Khandwa will become a power hub. Similarly, new electricity production units are being opened regularly in the State. Recently, an MoU was signed with NTPC for establishing a thermal power plant of 2640 MW in Narsinghpur district. The Satpura thermal plant and Singaji thermal plant will help in great way in fulfilling the power demand.
Earlier, Deshmukh accepted the suggestion of Chauhan for 50 per cent reservation to local residents in industries.
