Move to preserve forests lauded

The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) has welcomed the government's decision to classify forest reserves at altitudes of 1,000m and above as protected forests. However, it called for forested land outside forest reserves above that altitude to be given the same status as they also played the same ecological functions as repositories of biological diversity and timber, carbon sinks, climate moderators and water catchment areas.
