MP cong worried over vanishing lakes, ponds

The Madhya Pradesh Congress unit has expressed serious concern over the gradual destruction or total disappearance of many lakes and ponds in different parts of the state and announced that a campaign will be launched for the conservation of water bodies and their protection from reckless encroachment.
State Congress spokesperson Abhay Dubey said: “We are witnessing a situation where we have lost so many lakes at places like Harda, Rajgarh, Morena and Burhanpur. On the other hand, lakes such as the Upper Lake in the state capital, Yashwant Sagar in Indore, Bahadur Sagar at Jhabua, Sitapath lake at Dhar and Govindgarh Lake of Rewa still continue to remain a major source of drinking water.”
When different institutions are encroaching land in the catchment of Bhopal’s Upper Lake, one can imagine the situation prevailing in other parts of the state, he observed..
