The Madhya Pradesh Government is planning to give more teeth to the existing Forest Act to make it more effective. Chief Minister Babulal Gaur in a review meeting with the Forest Department to discuss the proposed Forest Policy suggested certain changes that would make the Act more stringent. The Government is planning to work out ways to enhance revenue generation from forest areas, control illegal mining, felling and encroachment of forestland. The Chief Minister in his meeting with the Forest Minister, Chaudhry Chandrabhan Singh and senior officers of the Forest, Narmada Valley Development Authority and Water Resources Department said that the existing Forest Act needs to be made more stringent so that it can prove to be an effective deterrent.
