The Madhya Pradesh Government, in this election year, is determined to encourage optimum exploitation of private forests and the State Governments latest notification of Lok Vaniki rules 2002 to facilitate the "scientific management of private forests' is obviously a step in that direction. The Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh had on earlier occassions reiterated that his governmnet is fully committed to giving the people their rightful share in "jal-jungle-jamin'. For the sake of promoting the exploitation of private forests, the Lok Vaniki Act, 2001 was enacted. It eliminates cumbersome process where the Collector's permission was required for felling trees
