The Kerala Government is likely to abandon the Rs 75-crore Kuwait-aided "Kerala Fisheries Development Project for Prawn Culture", following steep rise in the project cost caused by the delay in its implementation. The project envisaged in 1989 was scheduled to be completed in March 1998 but the target achieved was just 10 per cent. Though the achievement was only 10 per cent during the five-year period between 1993-98 , the expenditure incurred on the project amounted to nearly Rs 12 crore.
